Diary Study
A Diary Study is a User Research method in which Users are asked to record their experiences, thoughts and actions over a certain period of time using various media (on paper, via the internet, video, audio, etc.). It thus provides an insight into the everyday lives and emotions of these users, and is particularly helpful in gaining insights on long-term behavior (e.g. to learn more about the user experience with a product or software).
This method plays a key role in interdisciplinary projects by providing designers, user researchers and developers with fast, direct and authentic insights into the user’s world.
Nice to know:
Diary Studies are adapted to the needs of the project. They are particularly effective when investigating emotional aspects and long-term user behavior. We then analyze the recordings, identify trends and needs and derive need-oriented recommendations for the product or service from that information.
