Style Guide

A style guide documents how the visual and text elements of an application or brand should be used. It serves to ensure a uniform appearance and clear communication by defining guidelines for logos, colors, fonts and other design elements as well as the context in which each component is to be used, how it should be placed in the layout, what specific features or restrictions it has, and whether there are alternatives. Complete patterns - meaning a standardized combination of different components - can also be included.
Typical screens are developed to illustrate the implementation of the designs, and, if necessary, equipped with further descriptions. Special cases are also visualized and described.
Alternative terms for a style guide are “design guidelines” or “corporate design guide”.
Nice to know:
A style guide is particularly useful when several designers and developers are involved in a project. In conjunction with a design library, it can serve as a Single Point of Truth for the development of an application.
