High-Fidelity Prototyping

A high-fidelity prototype is a detailed, interactive rendering of the planned end product based on screens from the design. It contains pixel-perfect visual design elements and real content that both reflect the look and feel of the final product.

A high-fidelity prototype simulates a realistic user experience. This allows for in-depth design validations in order to identify and rectify potential usability problems. This not only leads to improved usability; it also reduces the risk of costly changes in later development phases. Thus, the feedback gained on the prototype is especially valuable.

Due to the pixel-perfect representation of the end product, a high-fidelity prototype is an essential part of a comprehensive handover to the development team. It serves as a template for complex processes, interactions and animations that are difficult to describe.

Nice to know:

Modern design software now makes it possible to create high-fidelity prototypes without any additional development effort. Nevertheless, it is possible to develop the prototype within the same technological framework that will later be used for the application itself. This has the advantage that elements from the prototype can be reused in the final implementation.
